Responsibilities in Accounting Leadership, Financial Management and Reporting
- Lead and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee all aspects of financial accounting, management accounting, and statutory reporting, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP, IFRS, and company policies.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, producing timely and accurate financial statements and management reports.
- Coordinate audit activities with internal and external auditors, ensuring readiness and clear communication.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls, safeguarding company assets and minimising financial risk.
- Drive process improvements across accounting systems and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Provide expert financial insight and analysis to support strategic planning, forecasting, and budgeting activities.
- Oversee tax compliance, VAT returns, and other regulatory submissions, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Collaborate with business partners across teams to ensure alignment and support for key projects and operational decisions.
Essential Skills and Experience for Head of Accounting Roles
- Extensive experience in financial and management accounting, preferably within a complex, multi-entity organisation.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting standards and relevant legislation in the UK (e.g., UK GAAP, IFRS, tax regulations).
- Demonstrable skill in leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing financial teams.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software (such as Sage, SAP, Oracle, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organisational capability, and ability to deliver within tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to support strategic business objectives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Professional integrity, discretion, and a proactive, hands-on approach to leadership.
Qualifications Required for Senior Finance and Accounting Leadership
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with substantial post-qualification experience.
